STWA hosted the Doncaster Regional Final of the Speakers' Trust 'Speak Out Challenge'
On Monday the 9th July, we hosted the Doncaster Regional Final of the Speakers' Trust "Speak Out Challenge". This was a public speaking competition in which Y10 students who had previously been involved in workshops in various schools in Doncaster were selected to compete against each other.
The final was an intimate event, with 8 students from STWA, Don Valley and Balby Carr competing on stage in front of the Civic Mayor, Councillor Madjid Khan as well as several other VIPs and an independent judging panel.
Our two students - Molly Anthony and Toby Crane - both represented the Academy extremely well. Molly was first up and gave a speech on 'Existentialism', whilst Toby was the penultimate speaker of the night, giving a speech on 'Youth Empowerment'. Both spoke passionately and were a credit to themselves and the Academy. I am pleased to announce that Toby was crowned the first ever Doncaster Speak Out Challenge winner!
STWA would also like to publicly acknowledge the immense talents of Emily Hickey and Mackinley Guest - two students who sang on the evening as part of the entertainment we provided.
Well done to all involved. We are very proud of the students that took part.
