Miss Matthews is a newly appointed governor with a keen interest in education and business and making links between the two in order to narrow the gap for local young people between them leaving education and entering employment. Her motivation for becoming a governor was to gain a better perspective and understanding of how the Academy works.
Upon leaving education, Miss Matthews started a career as an Estate Agent, which saw her working in the Sheffield area for eight years honing her sales and negotiation skills and training in management and property valuations. Returning to Doncaster, she became a Business and Education Adviser at Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, where she has been employed for the past five years. This role has enabled her to support individuals in to self employment and business growth, as well as having a strong focus on the Doncaster Skills Academy which serves to assist our young people to make beneficial connections with local businesses and help them to gain a perspective in to the employment opportunities available to them, whilst raising their awareness and aspirations.
Currently undertaking her Level 6 in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance, she is hoping to use these newly developed skills to further benefit both the Academy and the Borough's young people.
